Slatwall Frequently Asked Questions
What Is “Slat Spacing?”
When you look at a slatwall panel, you will notice there are horizontal lines going across it. If you measured from the center of one horizontal line to the center of the next horizontal line, then you will know the slat spacing. Standard slat spacing is 3” and give the most flexibility when merchandising. 6” slat spacing is becoming more popular since it is a more simplistic look similar to shiplap while also being functional!
Is It Easier to Install 4’ x 8’ Panels or 4’ x 4’ Panels?
The ease of installation depends on how many panels you are installing and how many people you plan on having help. Each 4’ x 8’ panel is roughly 90 lbs, while the 4’ x 4’ panels are roughly 45 lbs. If one person is doing the install, the 4’ x 4’ panel will be easier since they can likely hold the panel and screw it at the same time. If you have 2 or 3 people that will be doing the install, the 4’ x 8’ panels will have less seams between sheets however the install may require more work.
How Much Weight Can I Really Hold on Each Slatwall Panel?
As a general rule of thumb, you can hold up to 30 lbs per horizontal line across the slatwall without the aluminum inserts. You can hold up to 100 lbs per horizontal line across the slatwall with the aluminum inserts included. These are general guidelines – we have seen people hold more weight on both, but it will vary depending on which accessories you are using.
How Does Slatwall Get Delivered?
Slatwall panels are delivered via freight, meaning they arrive on a truck. A semi truck, box truck, or sprinter van will arrive at your business or residence after they call you the schedule a delivery day. The day of delivery, you will either have a lift gate lower the slatwall to the ground then the driver will bring it to the front door…or it will need to be unloaded one sheet at a time. If you have a forklift, you can also use this to unload.
What Happens If Slatwall Is Delivered and Is Damaged?
Let’s say a slatwall shipment arrives and is visibly damaged on the outside of the crate. You should tell the driver you want an Exception Number, take photos of the damaged shipment, refuse it, and sign the delivery receipt as “damaged”, then take a photo of it. Let’s say the slatwall is not visibly damaged, but you open the protective crate and find there is damaged. At this point, you should call us immediately so we can strategize on a solution together. We will never leave a client in a position where you are unhappy, so if this means we have to replace the slatwall then we will do it.
How Long Does It Take to Install Each Sheet of Slatwall?
20 minutes to 60 minutes is an acceptable amount of time to install each sheet of slatwall depending on if the slatwall needs to be cut, what material the wall is made from (concrete or wood/metal studs), and how perfectly level you’d like it.
