Slatwall Panels

Slatwall panels are one of the most versatile fixtures used to display almost any type of merchandise in retail stores. Each of our slatwall panels is 4′ tall x 8′ wide or 4′ tall x 4′ wide. Every panel will have a specified groove distance. This refers to the space between each groove.

In the slatwall industry, it’s common to use either a 3″ groove distance or 6″ groove distance. In each of these grooves, you have the option of including slatwall inserts, otherwise known as metal inserts or aluminum inserts. The reason retailers use slatwall inserts is to increase the weight a sheet of slatwall can confidently hold.

Your color options when buying from Displayarama is extensive. Got Questions?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about our slatwall panels.

Where can you buy slatwall panels?+
The best source is a retail display and fixture company like DISPLAYARAMA — we have the largest assortment of panels and accessories, ready to ship, with knowledgeable staff who can guide your purchase. Hardware stores carry limited selections that are often mishandled, online marketplaces lack accessories, and buying direct from manufacturers rarely results in the best pricing.
What are the standard dimensions for slatwall panels?+
Standard slatwall panels are 4' × 8' (48" × 96") with a thickness of ¾" (18–19mm). We also offer 4' × 4' panels which ship on smaller pallets, reducing shipping costs. While these are the most common sizes, custom dimensions are also available.
What is "slat spacing?"+
Slat spacing is the distance from the center of one horizontal groove to the center of the next. 3" spacing is standard and provides the most merchandising flexibility. 6" spacing is increasingly popular for a cleaner, shiplap-style look that's still fully functional.
How much weight can slatwall panels hold?+
Without aluminum inserts: up to 30 lbs per horizontal line. With aluminum inserts: up to 100 lbs per horizontal line. These are general guidelines — actual capacity varies depending on accessories used and installation quality.
What material is slatwall made from?+
MDF — medium density fiberboard. It's denser and more durable than particle board, making it ideal for retail environments that require consistent weight support of 30–100 lbs per groove.
Is slatwall waterproof?+
MDF slatwall is not waterproof, but handles moderate humidity fine. We have many clients using our slatwall in garages and beachside souvenir shops without any issues.
Is your slatwall CARB compliant?+
Yes — our slatwall panels are CARB compliant, meaning our production process adheres to California's strict formaldehyde emission limits.
What accessories are available for slatwall?+
We carry shelves (metal, glass, acrylic, wood, melamine, bullnose), baskets, faceouts, hooks, hangrails & brackets, hat holders, acrylic holders, and custom display solutions for any industry.
Are slatwall accessories interchangeable?+
Most slatwall accessories use a universal design that fits standard MDF slatwall grooves. Always verify compatibility before purchasing — insert the accessory: it should slide in easily, hang straight, and not wobble.
Will pegboard hooks work in slatwall?+
No — pegboard hooks fit into holes, slatwall uses horizontal grooves. They are not compatible. Use dedicated slatwall accessories for proper fit and safety.
Can slatwall panels be cut to different sizes?+
Yes. Use a circular saw with a ripping fence or a table saw with a fine-toothed blade. Apply painter's tape where you need to mark cuts. If your panels have aluminum inserts, remove them before cutting and trim them separately.
Do you install slatwall panels?+
Yes — we install slatwall panels anywhere in the country. Call us at 1-800-292-5227 for a quote on your installation project.
Will you beat a competitor's slatwall price?+
Yes. Call us with the competitor's name and price — we factor in the total cost including price per panel, tax, shipping, and timeline to ensure we beat it. 1-800-292-5227.
How do I clean my slatwall panels?+
Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth. For a deeper clean, use a mild cleaner like Windex, Murphy Oil Soap, or water and gentle detergent. Always apply to a cloth — not directly to the panel — and avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbers.
How does your pricing compare to other suppliers?+
We're very competitive — and we focus on the things most companies skip: answering the phone within 3 rings (a real person, not a robot), delivering on the date we promise, and making it right when something goes wrong. Put us to the test.
What are the standard dimensions?+
Standard panels are 4' × 8', ¾" thick. We also offer 4' × 4' panels for lower shipping costs. Custom sizes are available.
What is slat spacing?+
3" spacing is standard — most flexible for merchandising. 6" spacing gives a cleaner shiplap-style look while still fully functional. Both use the same accessories.
How much weight can slatwall hold?+
Up to 30 lbs per groove without aluminum inserts. Up to 100 lbs per groove with aluminum inserts included.
What material is slatwall made from?+
MDF — medium density fiberboard. Denser than particle board, ideal for consistent weight support in retail environments.
How much does a slatwall panel weigh?+
4' × 8' panels: 75–90 lbs. 4' × 4' panels: roughly 45 lbs.
Is slatwall waterproof?+
Not waterproof, but handles moderate humidity well. Commonly used in garages and beachside retail environments without issues.
Is your slatwall CARB compliant?+
Yes — CARB compliant, adhering to California's formaldehyde emission standards.
What are other names for slatwall?+
Slotwall, Slat Board, Slot Wall, Grooved Wall Display, Panel Groove Display, Grooved Fiber Board, Grooved Board.
Is it easier to install 4'×8' or 4'×4' panels?+
One person: 4'×4' panels are easier (45 lbs vs 90 lbs). Two or three people: 4'×8' panels have fewer seams for a cleaner look.
How long does it take to install each sheet?+
20–60 minutes per sheet, depending on whether cutting is needed, wall material, and how level you need it.
What screws should I use?+
2" self-tapping screws for metal or wood studs. 3" tapcons for concrete. Use silver or chrome screws when installing with aluminum inserts so the heads blend in.
How many screws per sheet?+
We recommend 28 screws per panel minimum. Use more if you plan to hang substantial weight.
Do aluminum inserts need to be removed before installing?+
No — drill directly through the aluminum inserts. This saves installation time and maintains the full weight capacity.
Can slatwall panels be cut to size?+
Yes. Use a circular saw or table saw with a fine-toothed blade. Mark cuts on painter's tape. Remove aluminum inserts before cutting and trim them separately.
Can slatwall be cut for electrical outlets?+
Yes — use a jigsaw or keyhole saw. Mark on painter's tape, not the panel. Use a sharp blade for clean edges.
Do you install slatwall?+
Yes — anywhere in the country. Call 1-800-292-5227 for a quote on your project.
What accessories are available?+
We carry: Baskets, Faceouts, Hangrails & Brackets, Hooks, Shelf Brackets, glass/acrylic/metal/wood/melamine shelves, hat holders, and more.
Are slatwall accessories interchangeable?+
Most use a universal design that fits standard MDF slatwall. To check: insert the accessory — it should slide in easily, hang straight, and not wobble under no weight.
Will pegboard hooks work in slatwall?+
No — they are not compatible. Pegboard hooks fit holes; slatwall uses grooves. Use dedicated slatwall accessories.
Do the 3" and 6" slat spacing use the same accessories?+
Yes — our slatwall accessories are universal for any MDF slatwall panel, regardless of slat spacing.
How does slatwall get delivered?+
Via freight — a semi truck, box truck, or sprinter van will call to schedule delivery. The driver will either use a lift gate (4'×4' panels only) or you manually offload one sheet at a time.
Can 4'×8' slatwall be delivered with a lift gate?+
No — lift gates are not allowed for 4'×8' panels. They must be manually offloaded one at a time by two people. 4'×4' panels can use a lift gate since they fit on a standard pallet.
What happens if slatwall arrives damaged?+
Visibly damaged crate: request an Exception Number from the driver, photograph the damage, and sign the receipt as "damaged." Hidden damage found after delivery: call us immediately — we will never leave you in a bad position.
Will you beat a competitor's price?+
Yes. Call us with the competitor name and price — we factor in the full cost (panels, tax, shipping, timeline) and beat it. 1-800-292-5227.
Do you offer bulk discounts?+
Yes — bulk pricing available when ordering 10 or more 4×8 panels. Call 1-800-292-5227 or fill out our bulk pricing form for a quote.
How does your pricing compare to other suppliers?+
We're very competitive — and we focus on answering the phone within 3 rings (a real person, not a robot), delivering on the date we promise, and making it right when something goes wrong.
