Got Questions?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything book store owners ask us before ordering. Can't find your answer? Call us at 1-800-292-5227 — we pick up instantly.

What display fixtures does a book store need?+
Most book stores are built around a combination of fixtures. Gondola shelving is the workhorse — double-sided runs through the floor create organized genre sections, while wall gondola around the perimeter handles high-capacity stock. Slatwall panels on walls are ideal for face-out book displays, accessories, bookmarks, and impulse items. Display cases work well for rare or collectible books, signed editions, and premium gift items. A checkout counter with a glass front doubles as last-minute impulse display space. Slatwall accessories — shelves, hooks, and literature holders — let you fine-tune every wall inch.
What gondola shelving height is best for a book store?+
For book stores, 72" to 84" gondola is the most popular for wall units — books are lightweight so you can go tall without safety concerns, maximizing capacity. For mid-floor aisle runs, 60" to 72" keeps the store feeling open while still holding a deep selection. Shorter 48" gondola works well for children's sections where reachability for younger readers matters.
What slatwall colors work best in a book store?+
We carry 13 colors and finishes. For book stores, natural wood tones — maple, cherry, Sonoma oak, or barnwood — are the most popular, giving the store a warm, literary atmosphere. White gloss or white matte panels work well for modern, minimalist bookshops where clean lines complement colorful cover art. The paintable raw MDF panel is also available if you want to match a custom brand color exactly.
Do you offer bulk discounts for book store buildouts?+
Yes — order 4 or more units and you qualify for bulk wholesale pricing. The more you order, the more you save. Fill out the bulk pricing form above or call 1-800-292-5227 and we'll put together a full store quote with your exact fixture list.
Can gondola shelves be adjusted to different book heights?+
Yes — gondola shelves slide on the upright and are fully repositionable at any time without tools. This is especially useful in book stores where shelf spacing needs to vary between paperbacks, hardcovers, oversized coffee table books, and children's picture books. You can reconfigure on the fly to match your current inventory.
What slatwall accessories work best for merchandising books?+
For book stores, the most useful accessories are: wood or acrylic shelves for face-out book displays (cover-forward merchandising sells far more than spine-out); literature holders for magazines, journals, and periodicals; hooks for bookmarks, reading accessories, and stationery; and wire baskets for used or discounted bin books. All accessories use the standard universal groove format and fit any of our slatwall panels.
How long does assembly take?+
Display cases take roughly 45–90 minutes each — the first unit takes the longest, then each additional one goes faster. Slatwall runs 20–60 minutes per 4'×8' panel depending on your crew. Gondola shelving is typically 30–90 minutes per unit with two people. If you'd prefer to skip assembly entirely, our assembled delivery option ships everything ready to place and stock immediately.
Can slatwall panels be cut to fit my wall dimensions?+
Yes. Standard panels are 4'×8', but they can be cut with a circular saw, table saw, or fine-toothed blade to any custom dimension. Mark your cuts on painter's tape first to prevent chipping the finish. For electrical outlets or switches, use a jigsaw or keyhole saw. We also carry 4'×4' half-panels if you're working with shorter walls or prefer a lighter panel for solo installation.
What is the difference between wall and double-sided gondola?+
Wall gondola is designed to run along a wall — it has a display surface on one side and is typically used around the perimeter of the store. Double-sided gondola is freestanding and displays product on both sides, perfect for creating genre aisles through the center of your book store floor. Most book stores use a combination: wall gondola on the perimeter and double-sided to build out their genre sections.
What heights and widths are available?+
Standard heights: 48", 54", 60", 72", and 84". Widths: 36" or 48". For book stores, 84" wall gondola around the perimeter maximizes shelf capacity, while 60"–72" double-sided units in the floor create browsable aisles without blocking sightlines across the store. 48" units work well for children's and picture book sections.
What are gondola end caps and should I use them?+
End caps attach to the ends of a gondola run, facing the aisle. They're prime visual real estate — perfect for featured titles, new releases, staff picks, or seasonal promotions. Shoppers naturally scan end caps as they move through the store. If you're running gondola aisles in your book store, end caps are almost always worth adding to the order.
What backing options are available for gondola shelving?+
Gondola uprights can be fitted with pegboard or slatwall backing panels. Slatwall backing is especially useful in book stores — it lets you add hooks for bookmarks and accessories, or face-out shelves for featured titles, directly on the gondola back panel without using separate wall space.
What are the standard slatwall panel dimensions?+
Standard panels are 4'×8' (48"×96"), ¾" thick. We also carry 4'×4' half-panels for shorter wall sections or for easier solo installation (about 45 lbs vs. 75–90 lbs for a full sheet). Both sizes use the same universal accessories.
How much weight can slatwall hold?+
Standard MDF slatwall without inserts holds 30 lbs per groove. With aluminum inserts (included on most of our panels), capacity increases to 100 lbs per groove — more than sufficient for face-out book shelves loaded with hardcovers, magazine racks, and accessory displays.
What is the difference between 3" and 6" slat spacing?+
3" spacing gives you more groove positions for maximum accessory placement flexibility — the right choice for most book stores where you'll be adjusting shelves frequently as inventory changes. 6" spacing has a cleaner shiplap-style aesthetic with fewer grooves. Both accept the same universal accessories. For a working book store retail environment, 3" spacing is usually the better pick.
Do you install slatwall?+
Yes — we offer professional slatwall installation anywhere in the country. Call 1-800-292-5227 for a quote. Whether you're outfitting a brand-new book store or refreshing an existing space, our installation team handles the full job and leaves it ready to accessorize and merchandise.
What display cases work best in a book store?+
For book stores, Full Vision display cases are the most common choice — glass front and top for clear visibility of rare or collectible books, signed editions, and premium gift items. Extra Vision cases (glass on all four sides) work well as island displays or near the checkout where customers approach from multiple directions. Both come in 48" and 70" widths.
Do display cases come with locks?+
Yes — every display case ships standard with a plunger or ratchet lock and two keys. Essential for book stores displaying first editions, signed copies, rare collectibles, or any high-value inventory you want to secure without removing from view.
Can I get LED lighting inside display cases?+
Yes. Extra Vision cases come standard with LED lighting (6,000K white) and mirrored doors. Custom LED can be added to the sides, top, or interior of any case. For featured collections or rare book displays, good lighting makes a significant difference in how the items present to shoppers.
What display case sizes are available?+
Full Vision cases: 48"×18"×38", 70"×18"×38", and 48"×18"×78" (tall tower). Extra Vision cases: 48"×20"×38", 70"×20"×38", and 48"×20"×72". All sizes are in stock in our Pompano Beach warehouse and ready to ship immediately.
How is my order shipped?+
All orders ship via freight. Your fixtures are packaged in boxes, palletized, and protected in a custom crate built specifically for your order. Assembly instructions are included. The freight carrier will contact you ahead of delivery to schedule a free delivery appointment — no surprise freight drops at your store.
What if something arrives damaged?+
We replace it at no cost. If damage is visible on delivery, photograph everything and note it on the delivery receipt before the driver leaves — then send us the photos. If damage is discovered after delivery, call us immediately at 1-800-292-5227. We file the freight claim and ship a replacement. You're fully covered either way.
How quickly can I receive my order?+
Because everything is stocked in our Pompano Beach warehouse, most orders ship within 1–3 business days of payment. Freight transit times vary by destination. The carrier will schedule a delivery appointment so you have an exact window. If you have a hard opening date, call us and we'll do everything we can to accommodate your timeline.
Will you beat a competitor's price?+
Yes. Give us the competitor's name and price and we'll factor in the total cost — including freight — and beat it. We've been in business since 1980 and our warehouse volume lets us offer pricing most competitors can't match, especially on bulk orders for full store buildouts.
